Episode 8 Recap

Kat ventures back through the pond and finds herself in her parents’ house during one of their most painful fights, uncovering that Colton was secretly working with a private investigator to find Jacob. Meanwhile in the present, Dell flirts with the idea of a future with Byron, only to push him away when things get real.

Alice is reeling in both timelines—breaking up with Nick in 2000 while learning that his adult self is now engaged. In one of the most emotional moments of the season, Nick confides (to Elliot, not Alice) that he never forgot his first love.

And after weeks of tension, Kat and Elliot finally share a kiss—messy, sweet, and very un-Hallmark in all the best ways.

What We Loved

  • Colton’s devotion to Jacob: heartbreaking but beautifully acted.
  • Alice’s teenage angst: authentic, raw, and relatable.
  • Kat and Elliot’s kiss: not your typical Hallmark fade-to-black moment!
  • The music cues: Alanis Morissette, “Lovefool,” and more ‘90s nostalgia woven perfectly into the story.

Big Questions Raised

  • Was Kat the “other woman” at Colton’s funeral all along?
  • Where exactly is Jacob, and will Season 1 give us any real answers?
  • Is Dell ready to let go of Colton—or will her grief keep sabotaging her relationships?

Why This Episode Works

“Lovefool” is packed with emotional payoffs and cliffhangers. It deepens the mystery of Jacob’s disappearance while giving us long-awaited moments between Kat and Elliot, Alice and Nick, and Dell and Byron. This is The Way Home at its best—equal parts heartache, nostalgia, and jaw-dropping reveals.
