Robbie on Life After Elimination
Robbie has has plenty of time to process his elimination since the show wrapped in April. While we were all gasping at home, he was happily spending the summer acting in dream roles, producing a musical in London, teaching at NYU and Stella Adler, and reconnecting with the cast as the show aired.
He admits the hardest part wasn’t leaving the competition but watching his friends and family brace for the episode. The silver lining? The outpouring of support from fans and especially from the LGBTQ+ community who felt seen, represented, and proud watching his journey.
Oh, and if you’re eliminated from a reality show, having Jonathan Bennett hug you and tell you he’s proud is the best possible version of events.

The Hallmark Difference
Robbie couldn’t say enough about how deeply cared for the cast felt. From Jonathan Bennett to the producers to craft services, the entire environment felt like one big Christmas party.
Contestants weren’t treated like disposable reality stars. They were treated like actors making something meaningful. And that’s exactly why everyone cried every time someone left.

The Audition That Could Be Its Own Show
A late-night DM from casting director Lindsay Lyles set everything in motion. Robbie and his partner Kyle watched one episode of season one. Then four. Then the rest the next night.
From there, the process was a frenzy of self tapes, Zooms, interviews, and callbacks. It took three weeks for Robbie, but three months for others. He joked the audition process could have been its own reality show and we agree fully.

That Elimination
Yes, we talked about it. Yes, we are still mad.
Robbie opened up about what it felt like to be judged on things that didn’t necessarily line up with his actual relationships in the house. In spite of what some clever editing would have you believe, he and Rustin remain close and talk all the time.
Ultimately, Robbie chalks it up to the risks Craig and Davey took in their scene paying off big time. Was it tough? Yes. Did he learn from it? Also yes. And in the end, he chooses to focus on the enormous amount of support he received, the opportunities that came after, and the full life he left the show with.
The Emotional Moments
Robbie’s vulnerable conversation about his mom during the talent show resonated deeply with viewers and with us. He shared that he had never spoken those feelings aloud before. Not to his dad. Not to his aunt. Not to anyone.
Since then, he has received messages from people who felt seen or finally able to talk about their own regrets. That, Robbie says, is the real win.

The Fun Stuff: Hamster Balls, Slip n Slides, and Beautiful Jerk Girl
We covered it all:
- The Crisco mountain he couldn’t summit even once
- The wipeout he knew would make TV
- The now iconic moment where he said “beautiful jerk girl” and had no memory of it
- Getting the first slingshot present and sending Wendy into a spiral of joy
Robbie has fully embraced that the awkward moments are sometimes the greatest gifts of reality TV.

The Hallmark Family Connections
Robbie is accidentally the Kevin Bacon of Hallmark.
He told us about:
- Becoming friends with Real Housewife Bronwyn Newport on a plane home from Utah
- Road tripping Jonathan Bennett’s friend, Hallmark star, and famed director Ali Liebert to Palm Springs
- His long friendship with Ginna Clare Mason from The Holiday Spectacular
- Having seen Mary Kate Morrissey play Elphaba approximately one million times (they were college besties!)
Robbie Simpson’s Dream Hallmark Role
Robbie would love:
- A mystery
- A fun dynamic ensemble
- Something with hijinks
- Something with Jonathan Bennett or Ginna Clare as scene partners
- A project directed by Ali Liebert
- A story where he simply exists as a queer person without that being the central plot
We are manifesting all of the above.
The Petition to Cast Robbie in a Hallmark Movie
A viewer named Lindsay started a petition after Robbie’s elimination and it is the sweetest, most heartfelt thing. Robbie found out about it when Kyle texted him saying, have you seen this petition?
He said the note she wrote made him feel seen as an artist in a way that meant everything.
