When Calls the Heart Prequel Announced: Hope Valley 1874 Is Coming to Hallmark+
Calling all Hearties: the Hallmark universe you love is getting bigger in the best possible way. Hallmark has officially announced a When Calls the Heart prequel, and it’s taking us back to Hope Valley in 1874.
This standalone spin-off premieres exclusively on Hallmark+ in March 2026 and is shaping up to be a must-watch for fans who can’t get enough of community, romance, and frontier spirit.
It’s giving Yellowstone: Hallmark style and we know the fans will rally for it. History has shown us that we love a spin off, we love familiar characters, and we love playing in a familiar sandbox.
What Makes Hope Valley: 1874 Different?
If you thought the original When Calls the Heart was heartwarming you’re going to fall in love with the origin story that Hallmark has in store. Instead of picking up where the main series left off, this new show goes way back:

- Alongside that budding connection, we meet tenacious pioneer Hattie Quinn and a cast of ranchers, gold prospectors, and early settlers who lay the foundation of what Hope Valley eventually becomes.
Who’s Starring in the When Calls the Heart Prequel
Hallmark isn’t holding back with the casting of this series. With heavy hitters like Bethany Joy Lenz and Benjamin Ayres at the top of the ticket, fans will come running. And bringing in Lachlan Quarmby from last summer’s Providence Falls is a nice move.
- Bethany Joy Lenz stars as Rebecca Clarke, bringing depth and charm to a character determined to make a fresh start with her daughter.
- Benjamin Ayres plays rancher Tom Moore, whose rugged exterior hides a big heart.

While it’s true that we don’t watch and review When Calls the Heart, we are going to have a hard time saying no to the power pairing of Benjamin Ayres and Bethany Joy Lenz.
