What Is A Newport Christmas About?
From Hallmark Channel: Ella (Mason) is a charitable and spirited Newport socialite in 1905 who dreams of using her wealth to start a foundation to help others in town. After learning her father intends for her to become engaged to a man she’s never met at the upcoming Christmas Eve ball, Ella goes for a nighttime sail in her schooner to clear her head. Upon seeing a comet shoot across the sky, she wistfully wishes for a different life. Ella is shocked to suddenly find Nick (Brown), a sailor and local Newport historian, aboard her schooner and accuses him of being a stowaway. But Nick insists he owns the boat, and a standoff ensues. Once on dry land, Ella realizes that somehow, she’s traveled from 1905 to 2025. As she spends time there and gets a glimpse of what her future in 1905 appears to be, she becomes reluctant to return – especially since she and Nick have grown close and she now knows how true love feels. But the legacy Ella built in her time – and the course of Newport’s history – risks being erased the longer she stays in the present, so the two plot a course for her trip back through time. What awaits her at home, however, is even more surprising than what she found in the future.
Hallmark Favorites Lead the Cast of A Newport Christmas
- Dustin Rikert directed A Newport Christmas. This is the first of two movies he directed this holiday season. With 29 directorial credits, Dustin’s resume reads like a Girls Gone Hallmark favorites list, including The Christmas Quest, The Finnish Line, A Merry Scottish Christmas and so many more.
- The screenplay was written by Joie Botkin, marking her 31st writing credit. She also has another film debuting this holiday season. Botkin’s previous Hallmark projects include Savoring Paris, Branching Out, and Never Been Chris’d.
- Ginna Claire Mason stars as Ella. This is Ginna Claire’s 5th acting credit and has previously starred in A Carol for Two, A Heidelberg Holiday, and A Holiday Spectacular. Ginna Claire starred as Glinda in Wicked in a multi-year run on Broadway.
- Wes Brown stars as Nick. Fresh off his return as Jared in Haul Out the Halloween, this marks his 56th acting credit. Fun fact: Wes’s Love on the Danube episode is our most-downloaded podcast of the year!
- Talla Robinson plays Christine. Talla has just two other acting credits which include the series Power Book II: Ghost and an episode of The Equalizer.
- Evan Alexander Smith plays Francis. Evan Alexander is another Hallmark newbie. This project marks his third acting credit.
- David O’Donnell plays Adam/Rex. David has previously appeared on Hallmark in A Cozy Christmas Inn from 2022.
- Friend of the show Keith Nielsen was the costume designer on A Newport Christmas where he told us months ago that we weren’t ready for the looks in this movie.
- Regina Schneider plays Sadie. Regina has 29 acting credits and appeared in Mystic Christmas from 2023. Other work includes FBI: Most Wanted and The Blacklist.
- Paige Ann Cummings plays Ada. Paige’s resume is stacked with short films and this is her first time on Hallmark.
- Joseph Dellger plays Albert. With 13 acting credits, Joseph has been seen on The Blacklist, The Good Cop, and Gotham. This is his first appearance on Hallmark.

Where Was A Newport Christmas Filmed?
Production for A Newport Christmas began in March 2025 in upstate New York, with filming taking place across Erie and Niagara Counties. According to a casting call shared by Casting Buffalo and reported by the New Haven Register, the production ran from March 17 to April 3, 2025 and included local extras portraying ballroom dancers, Gilded Age guests, and more.
After wrapping in New York, the cast and crew moved to Newport, Rhode Island, where they began filming on April 7, 2025 at Bowen’s Wharf, which was transformed with festive holiday decor to capture the movie’s timeless Christmas aesthetic. This portion of filming was covered by several local outlets, including WROR and The Newport Buzz, who noted the excitement the production brought to the waterfront area.
