Why Hot Frosty is Generating Buzz

So, why all the excitement over Hot Frosty? For starters, the film stars one of Hallmark’s go-to stars. Seeing her lead a Christmas movie outside of Hallmark feels both exciting and a little unusual – like watching your favorite player suit up for a different team.

Chabert’s pull is so strong, though, that she’s still front and center in one of Hallmark’s most talked-about holiday films this year, The Christmas Quest. Whether on Hallmark or not, has clearly mastered the art of holiday movie domination – and we’ll all be watching.

Adding to the buzz is Russell Hainline (The Santa Summit, In Merry Measure, Three Wiser Men and a Boy), a favorite Hallmark screenwriter known for his clever scripts. Chabert and Hainline teaming up is bound to deliver a fun, feel-good holiday movie.

Jerry Ciccoritti, one of Canada’s most sought-after directors, brings his talent to Hot Frosty. Known for his work across various genres, Ciccoritti has directed feature films, television movies, and notable projects like My Life with the Walter Boys and 14 episodes of the hit sitcom Schitt’s Creek.

The Plot of Hot Frosty

According to this Deadline article, the plot of Hot Frosty revolves around Cathy, played by Lacey Chabert, who is grappling with the loss of her husband two years later. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she magically brings a handsome snowman to life.

This snowman, with his endearing naïveté, helps Cathy rediscover laughter, love, and joy. As their bond deepens, they fall for each other just in time for the holidays, though the snowman’s fate is uncertain as he faces the inevitable melt.

Who Else Stars in Hot Frosty Besides Lacey Chabert?

Hot Frosty boasts a stellar supporting cast that adds to its appeal.

  • Dustin Milligan, known for his role as Ted in Schitt’s Creek, brings his comedic flair to Hot Frosty. His extensive resume includes standout performances in The People We Hate at the WeddingRutherford FallsDirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, and the 90210 reboot showcases his range and talent.
  • Craig Robinson, probably best known for his role as Darryl on The Office and fresh off his success in Killing It, adds his signature humor.
  • Joe Lo Truglio, known for his roles in Brooklyn Nine-NineHow I Met Your Mother, and Pitch Perfect, will bring his trademark humor and energy.
  • Katy Mixon Greer, celebrated for her performances in Mike & Molly and American Housewife, brings her comedic chops to the mix.

Is Hot Frosty Too Hot for Hallmark?

With familiar faces like the screenwriter, lead actor, and production company – who have all done plenty of work for Hallmark – one must wonder if this project found its perfect home on Netflix because it didn’t quite fit the usual Hallmark mold.

Was Hot Frosty just too wild for Hallmark’s usual G-rated content. Could it be that the film has some edgier or spicier moments – like a few extra mid-movie kisses – and that was simply too hot for the Hallmark brand?

While Hot Frosty will probably keep the feel-good holiday vibes we love, it’s certainly entertaining to speculate on how this movie might shake things up compared to our usual Hallmark fare.

Lacey Chabert’s Busy Holiday Season

Like we said, Chabert isn’t abandoning Hallmark by any means. She’s set to star in The Christmas Quest alongside Kristoffer Polaha and is also making waves on Hallmark+ with her new 10-episode reality series, Celebrations with Lacey Chabert. In this show, she and her team organize surprise parties for impactful community members, with Chabert serving as both the host and executive producer.

We’re excited to see Lacey Chabert continue to shine both within and beyond the Hallmark realm. Go off, queen.
