Our Thoughts on “Three Wise Men and a Baby”
This is a synopsis of the ideas we discuss in greater detail on “Girls Gone Hallmark”. We invite you to become listeners of the show to hear our full thoughts and dive deeper into the world of Hallmark movies with us!
What We Liked
Let’s start with what we absolutely loved. The focus on the brothers and their relationship was a refreshing twist. We appreciated how the movie abandoned the typical Hallmark holiday tropes to bring us a story that was heartfelt and relatable. The chemistry between the three male leads was undeniable, and you could truly feel the bond of friendship among them.
One of the highlights? Tyler Hynes living in his mom’s basement. When she called him for dinner and he replied, “Ma, I’ll be upstairs in a minute,” it was sheer perfection. We also loved the everyday baby hijinks, from putting together the swing to dealing with stinky diapers. It brought a delightful, real-life touch to the movie.
The emotional depth was also a strong point. Scenes like the brothers’ car conversation about their mom and dad really tugged at our heartstrings. Not to mention the film’s sensitive portrayal of single motherhood, and the grace they showed to the struggling mother who needed help.
What We Wished For
While we were mostly enamored with the movie, we had a couple of small wishes:
Firstly, we struggled a bit with the believability of a mother leaving her eight-month-old at a fire station. While we understand the storyline aimed to illustrate desperation, it felt a little off given modern-day contexts.
Secondly, the romantic subplot between Andrew Walker’s character and Sophie felt a bit too neat and tidy. We loved that they ended up together, but it seemed driven more by his affection for baby Thomas rather than a genuine romantic connection.
Did You See That?
One of our favorite segments is “Did You See That?” where we point out fun moments and cameos:
- Daisy Sour Cream Ad: There was a blatant daisy sour cream advertisement, and in case you missed it, the mid-roll commercial also presented by Daisy Sour Cream!
- Date My Dad Cameo: Chris Gauthier, who plays neighbor Todd in Date My Dad, made an appearance.
- Terry Ingram Cameo: The photo of the fallen firefighter in the fire station was actually a cameo by director Terry Ingram.
- Kimberly Sustad Cameo: Kimberly Sustad made a delightful cameo as the doctor, delivering the line, “You can’t write this stuff,” which was a funny nod to the movie’s scriptwriting.
- Favorite Scenes: Scenes like Stephan reminiscing at the Christmas market while the other brothers walked away and the dog park encounter with Fiona Broom’s character, Susan, were absolute gold.
- Slow-motion Walk: The scene with the brothers walking up to Santa, decked out in festive attire, deserved to be watched in slow motion. It was that epic.
Our Rating
We gave this movie a solid Five Stars! It’s not often that a Hallmark movie strikes the perfect balance of humor, heart, and originality. This one nailed it.
