Will There Be a Third “Cases of Mystery Lane” Movie
When we originally wrote this post, we did so with so much hope in our hearts. We enjoyed the zany antics of Alden and Birdie Case. We liked that this wasn’t your typical mystery franchise. We loved the tightly written scripts brought to us by Joel Dovev and Margeaux Froley. We hoped to see this franchise live a long life of Hallmark Mystery releases.
We come to you today with sad news. The Cases of Mystery Lane has officially been canceled. Let’s talk about it.
A Suspenseful Second Chapter
The Cases of Mystery Lane: Death is Listening aired Friday, September 13th, 2024 on Hallmark Mystery. After the first installment of the series, viewers had been impatiently waiting for an update. We love that Friday the 13th release date!
Writers Joel Dovev and Margaux Froley returned, alongside director Mike Rohl to bring us the latest installment featuring a true crime podcaster who becomes a true crime victim!

Factors Influencing a Third Movie
Several factors could have influenced the decision to continue the Cases of Mystery Lane franchise:
- Audience Reception: The most crucial factor is the viewer response to Death is Listening. If the film achieves strong ratings and positive reviews, it will increase the likelihood of a third installment. So do your thing, Sleuthers!
- Storyline Potential: The creative team behind the series would need to develop a compelling new storyline that maintains the charm and suspense of the previous films.
We full believe in the husband and wife team of Joel Dovev and Margaux Froley and their ability to produce a third, killer script. - Scheduling and Production: The production schedule and availability of the actors involved would also play a role in determining whether a third movie is feasible.
Paul is a busy dude, writing and acting, but based on what we know (exactly nothing!) we’re going to go ahead and assume he would hop on board (or back into Alden’s Kia) for a third installment!
What Fans Wanted from a Third “Cases of Mystery Lane” Movie
Far be it for us to step on the writers toes, but we’re thinking it would be fun for Birdie and Alden to try their hands at clearing a celebrities’ name after they’re accused of a crime!
Or! Maybe the Cases come back next fall and investigate a series of strange events in an old, presumed to be haunted, house!
The Fate of The Cases of Mystery Lane
Paul Campbell himself confirmed the cancelation in a comment on Hallmark Mysteries and More on Instagram. Many fans missed that comment and chimed in on the video below, posted by Girls Gone Hallmark on Instagram that this was brand new and unwelcome information!
We haven’t been this upset since Hallmark canceled another fan favorite mystery series.

We love all of Hallmark’s mystery series…ALL of them. Cases Of Mystery Lane #2 fell right in l9ne with the first in the series….it was fun to watch, it kept us guessing until the end, and the actors and actresses all did their parts in keeping us eagerly watching to the end. Thanks again Hallmark.
I love this new Hallmark mystery series The Cases of Mystery Lane! Hallmark has discontinued so many good Mysteries series that it’s helpful that they have created a new one that is so good! I hope there will be a third episode. The ending of Death is Listening appears to set up the next episode. The FBI showing up at their door saying Birdies father didn’t die when she was six pretty much feels like the next mystery!!
I love all the Hallmark Mysteries, but I have an extra softer spot for a few, The Cases of Mystery Lane being one of them. It’s so well written, the actors are so well paired that you’d think they were a real couple, I’m loving these films. Crossing everything that they’ll keep making them alongwith The Jane Mysteries, Nellie Knows, of course Curious Caterer 🙌🙌🙌. I really hope they bring 2nd films to mysteries like Tipline, Crimes of Fashion, Gilded Mysteries, True Justice, Cut Color, Nikki n Nora, Redemption on Cherry Springs, Family History, Crime time Freefall etc. They seem to release such good films, and then we hear no more. Come on Hallmark, we all love the Mysteries, we want more 😁
