The Way Home Season 4 Episode 7: The Key Is the Key Is the Key
The Way Home Season 4 Episode 7, “Workin’ My Way Back to You,” finally gives us a few answers we’ve been waiting for – while somehow creating twice as many new questions. This week we’re unpacking Elliot’s heartbreaking conversation with Tessa, Kat’s growing panic about what might have happened to her person, and the long-awaited reveal of the mysterious sticky piano key. Plus, Alice makes a major life decision, Fern and Cliff finally stop talking and start kissing, and we’re officially putting some storylines on notice. There’s a lot to discuss, and yes, we have thoughts.

The Way Home Season 4 Episode 7 Highlights
Here’s some of the things that had us talking in Season 4 Episode 7: “Workin’ My Way Back to You”
KC, Patron Saint of “I’m Not Telling You Anything”
For someone who keeps showing up with life-changing information, KC spends most of this episode refusing to answer anyone’s questions. Alice wants reassurance. Kat wants answers. Sam wants clarity. KC wants everyone to stop asking. The result is one of the most frustrating – and interesting – episodes we’ve had for the character.
Tessa Said “Best Choice at the Time” and Called It a Day
If Tessa thought one vague explanation was going to fix decades of trauma, she badly misread the room. Elliot goes looking for answers and closure but leaves with neither. Worse, his decision to remain in 1925 leaves Kat completely spiraling back in the present. While Elliot may feel he needs answers, Kat is stuck wondering if she’s lost her person all over again – and honestly, we’re frustrated on her behalf.
Jacob and Abby: The Soilmates Nobody Asked For – Especially Megan
At this point, Jacob has spent more time discussing dirt than some people spend discussing their actual relationships. The Goodwin’s Good Wine storyline continues as Jacob gives Abby a farm tour, a history lesson, a soil seminar, and eventually a kiss. If you’re invested, we’re happy for you. If you’re checking your phone during these scenes, we understand.

Is Elliot Missing in the Future… Because He’s Missing in the Past?
The episode ends with one giant flashing warning sign. Between the newspaper article, the approved sabbatical, Kat’s inability to return to him, and that mysterious future scene from Episode 1, we’re becoming increasingly concerned about Elliot’s fate. T
