The Forsytes Season 2 Is Officially Happening and Richard Rankin Is Joining the Cast
Between Ann’s dark secret, Soames and Irene’s unraveling marriage, Jo’s impossible choice, we can see why the season 1 finale of The Forsytes could ldave you wanting more. We have good news! MASTERPIECE on PBS has officially commissioned a second season, and filming is already underway in Bristol, UK.
The fact that production on Season 2 began before Season 1 even finished airing in the US tells you everything you need to know about the confidence behind this show. Mammoth Screen and MASTERPIECE clearly know they have something special on their hands. We have to agree.
Richard Rankin Is Joining The Forsytes Season 2
The biggest casting news: Richard Rankin. You might know him Roger Mackenzie in Outlander and the title role in Rebus. He’s joining the ensemble for Season 2. His character hasn’t been revealed yet, but if you’ve been watching his work, you know he brings a controlled intensity that would fit right into this world of polished facades and barely-contained chaos. We’ll be watching for any further casting announcements very closely.

What to Expect in The Forsytes Season 2
Season 2 picks up with the Forsyte dynasty entering what the official announcement calls “a new era of scandal, ambition, and shifting loyalties.” If you’ve just watched Ann drop that bombshell secret in the finale, or watched Soames and Irene’s marriage collapse under the weight of his need for control, you already know there’s plenty left to unravel.
Writer Debbie Horsfield is back with original scripts, and the same executive producing team remains in place: Horsfield, Meenu Gaur, Damien Timmer, and Susanne Simpson. Mammoth Screen has a real track record with long-form family sagas (they also made Poldark and Victoria), and this show is absolutely in that lineage.
