This week on Girls Gone Hallmark, we’re climbing aboard the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie The Christmas Train. Starring Dermot Mulroney, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Danny Glover, and Joan Cusack, this holiday drama follows two former war correspondents who unexpectedly reunite on a cross-country train journey from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles just days before Christmas. As old feelings resurface and a colorful cast of fellow passengers fills the ride with romance, mystery, and holiday spirit, we break down whether this Hall of Fame adaptation lives up to its prestigious billing – or if this Christmas train should have stayed at the station.
The Christmas Train premiered on November 25, 2017, as a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, airing simultaneously on both cable networks. It is currently available to stream on Hallmark+.

About The Christmas Train (Hallmark Hall of Fame – 2017)
- Ron Oliver directed The Christmas Train. A Hallmark staple, Oliver has amassed 93 directing credits, including Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Groomsmen trilogy, and dozens of other fan-favorite Hallmark movies.
- The teleplay was written by Neal Dobrofsky and Tippi Dobrofsky, a husband-and-wife writing team, and is based on David Baldacci’s bestselling 2003 novel of the same name.
- Kimberley Williams-Paisley stars as Eleanor. She’s had a recurring role on the series 911: Nashville for the last few seasons but hasn’t been on Hallmark since The Sister Swap movies in 2021.
- Dermot Mulroney stars as Tom. Dermot is known for films like My Best Friend’s Wedding and The Wedding Date. With more than 160 acting credits to his name, this remains his most recent Hallmark appearance.
- Danny Glover stars as Max Powers. With more than 200 acting credits—including the Lethal Weapon films, The Color Purple, and Dreamgirls – Danny has more than 200 acting credits spanning film and television.
- Joan Cusack stars as Agnes. I’ll always think of her as “Geek Girl #1” from Sixteen Candles, but with more than 90 acting credits, audiences also know her as the voice of Jessie in the Toy Story franchise, most recently reprising the role in Toy Story 5.
