Move that bus! – We hope Home Is Where the Heart Is captures the heartwarming transformation and emotional impact that made Extreme Makeover: Home Edition a beloved feel-good classic.

Did Luke Macfarlane Leave Hallmark?

Luke Macfarlane has been a staple on the Hallmark Channel for years. He made his network debut in The Memory Book (2014), starring alongside Meghan Ory. Since then, he has appeared in a ton of Hallmark movies, including fan favorites like Catch Me If You Claus, Notes of Autumn, and Taking a Shot at Love.

Macfarlane took a brief hiatus from Hallmark in 2022. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he shared, “They’ve been very good to me, but I think I’ve told my story for now with those folks,” adding, “I mean, how many firefighters can I play?” That year, he starred in A Magical Christmas Village before shifting his focus to other projects, including the film Bros, the TV series Platonic, and the drama Amish Stud: The Eli Weaver Story. However, his time away from Hallmark was short-lived, he returned in fall 2023 with Notes of Autumn.

After starring in Catch Me If You Claus – a movie we still find ourselves referencing for its big swing – Macfarlane was noticeably absent from the 2024 Countdown to Christmas lineup. He also didn’t make an appearance at any major Hallmark events, such as the Christmas Cruise or the Kansas City Christmas Experience.

Where to Watch Luke Macfarlane’s Home Is Where the Heart Is

When Hallmark+ debuted in July 2024, Macfarlane’s feel-good home renovation show was announced alongside other “unscripted, aspirational series” like Celebrations with Lacey ChabertReady, Set, Glow, and Small Town Setup.

Finally, after an eight-month wait, Home Is Where the Heart Is is set to premiere. The big question now is whether Hallmark+ will release all episodes at once, like Ready, Set, Glow and Small Town Setup, or follow a weekly rollout, as they did with Celebrations with Lacey Chabert.

What We Know About Home Is Where the Heart Is

Home Is Where the Heart Is is a true passion project for Luke Macfarlane, who, in an interview with Gio, shared his love for woodworking and home renovation – an interest inspired by his architect grandfather.

Reflecting on his evolving collaboration with Hallmark, Macfarlane told the online magazine, “One of the best things about working with Hallmark is that they grow with you and adapt to you. When the opportunity came along to work on a new show with Hallmark, they grew with me and adapted to me.” We can’t help but read between the lines – could this be a sign that Macfarlane is (again) moving beyond his role as the quintessential romantic lead?
