Girls Gone Hallmark Listener Survey Results: The Good, The Bad, The Very Specific

The Girls Gone Hallmark listener survey results are in and WOW… you all had thoughts. Like, passionate thoughts. Hundreds of responses rolled in with everything from incredibly kind encouragement to very specific grievances about the News & Notes segment, podcast ads, and whether we’re simply “too soft” when reviewing Hallmark movies. In this episode, we’re diving into the biggest trends from the survey, reacting to some of the funniest and most brutally honest responses, and addressing the feedback head on. Turns out the GGH listeners are just as opinionated as the hosts.

News & Notes: Gone But Never Forgotten (Well… Slightly Shortened)

Apparently News & Notes stopped being a quick pre-movie rundown and quietly turned into a IMDb rabbit hole. Feedback like “too long” and “boring” came up more than once. Ok, message received.

But we also genuinely love highlighting the writers, directors, and supporting cast because Hallmark movies are made by way more people than just the two leads kissing near a gazebo. The good news? We heard you. In recent weeks we’ve tightened the segment up considerably while still giving flowers to the entire cast and crew on our website. Consider it the “abridged edition” of News & Notes. Let us know if it’s working for you.

Unfortunately Hallmark Opinions Do Not Pay the Bills – Ads Do

We heard the feedback loud and clear: the ads felt loud, jarring, awkwardly placed, and occasionally long enough to make the actual movie review feel shorter than expected. Fair criticism. We’ve already worked with our hosting platform to help normalize the volume. Audio engineers we are not, but we do think it’s improved. You tell us.

That said… this is where we lovingly push back a little bit. We don’t have total control over every ad that gets inserted. We’ve already removed ad categories and subject matter that isn’t the right fit for our audience, and we’ll keep refining where we can. But the ads themselves? They’re not going anywhere. Girls Gone Hallmark is a real business, and ad revenue is part of how we keep the podcast running, the website updated, and ourselves supplied with caffeine during Countdown to Christmas. Please feel free to tap through during an ad break.

Our Scoring System Is Basically Pure Vibes

A few listeners politely informed us that our movie scores can feel… generous. Some wanted harsher criticism and more brutal honesty. Here’s the thing: we’ve never pretended our scoring rubric was scientific. It’s entirely based on vibes, emotional reactions, chemistry, whether someone wore a particularly excellent coat, and if the fake snow budget was distracting. What absolutely works for us might completely miss for someone else, and vice versa.

We also talked about the fact that we’re human beings talking about projects made by other human beings. Our goal has never been to absolutely torch a movie for sport. There are podcasts that thrive in that space but that’s just not what Girls Gone Hallmark is. We try to walk the line between constructive criticism and still recognizing the things that did work, even in movies that maybe didn’t totally land for us. And yes, we hear the feedback to keep pointing out the misses too. Trust us, our “Wishes” section still has a job.

Did You Know We Have a Facebook Group?

Some listeners let us know they’d love fewer reminders about our Facebook group and social channels at the top of episodes. We get it. But we also really love the community we’ve built there and want to keep growing Girls Gone Hallmark beyond just the podcast feed. So while the promos probably aren’t disappearing completely, we are trying to keep them shorter, quicker, and less repetitive.

First Impressions Are Meant to Be Quippy

Some of you wanted our First Impressions to include more thoughtful analysis and fewer quick jokes. Unfortunately, the segment called First Impressions was always intended to be exactly that: fast, funny gut reactions before we really dig into the movie. The deeper commentary, criticism, and actual review live in Likes and Wishes. Sometimes a one-liner about a magic piano simply deserves airtime.

Occasionally We Review Things Without a Hallmark Media Logo Attached to Them

Not every listener loves when we wander outside the Hallmark universe for the occasional PBS series or Netflix rom-com, and some suggested we move all non-Hallmark coverage over to Patreon instead. We talked a lot about how Patreon is still something we’re actively figuring out, especially when it comes to creating enough exclusive content that feels worth a separate subscription. We also know not every Hallmark listener is automatically following us there.

At the same time, covering a few Hallmark-adjacent shows in the main feed helps us grow beyond one very specific cable movie ecosystem. If a series has cozy vibes, yearning eye contact, emotional trauma, period costumes, or an inexplicably attractive man brooding near water, it starts feeling spiritually connected to Hallmark anyway.

Sometimes the Fake Snow Meets the Real World

A handful of listeners asked us to keep politics completely out of the podcast because it interrupts the cozy Hallmark escapism. We are who we are, and part of Girls Gone Hallmark has always included conversations around inclusion, representation, and diversity in Hallmark programming. That’s not changing.

And yes, occasionally real-world thoughts sneak into the conversation because we’re actual humans having actual reactions. And if that means we’re not for everyone, that’s okay too.

We Too Would Like to Become Oprah Overnight

A lot of listeners said they’d love more interviews and fewer press junket style chats, especially because the junkets can feel fast, choppy, and a little less conversational. Heard. Whenever we get the opportunity to sit down one-on-one with talent, those interviews almost always feel more natural and are way more fun.

That said, access to Hallmark talent in any format is still something we’re incredibly grateful for, and we’ll probably keep sharing those opportunities when they come along. We’re also always talking about doing more original interviews, but the reality is we’re still two moms recording at a kitchen table while juggling schedules, logistics, time zones, and occasional crippling imposter syndrome. So if you know a publicist who wants to hand us unrestricted access to Andrew Walker for an hour, please let them know we’re available.
