A Primer: What Is Garage Sale Mystery?
The setup is simple and it never changes. Jennifer Shannon has an eye for old things. She owns an antiques and consignment shop called Rags to Riches, and she spends her weekends hunting garage sales and storage auctions for treasure.
The trouble is that the treasure keeps coming with a body attached.
Every movie in this series works the same way. Jennifer buys an object. A wedding dress, a suit of armor, a reel to reel recorder, a player piano, an antique camera. Something about that object does not add up. She pulls the thread, and it unravels into a murder the police already wrote off as an accident.
Her own friends call her a murder magnet. They have a point.
Jennifer has a shop to run, a husband, and two teenagers. The murders have to squeeze in around all of it. She is chasing a lead one minute and getting dinner on the table the next, and we love that about her. She feels like someone you would actually run into at an estate sale.
Who’s Who in Garage Sale Mystery
Jennifer Shannon (Lori Loughlin) is our sleuth. She appears in all 16 movies and returns for the 2026 film.
Dani (Sarah Strange) is Jennifer’s business partner and best friend. She has been there since the beginning and is the one who talks Jennifer out of the worst ideas. Usually unsuccessfully.
Jason Shannon (Steve Bacic) is Jennifer’s husband, an architect. Note that Rick Ravanello played Jason in the pilot movie. Steve Bacic took over from the second film on and has played him ever since.
Detective Frank Lynwood (Kevin O’Grady) is the officer who ends up working with Jennifer, sometimes gladly and sometimes not.
Hannah Shannon (Eva Bourne) is Jennifer’s daughter. Sara Canning played Hannah in the pilot before Bourne stepped in.
Logan Shannon (Connor Stanhope) is Jennifer’s son.
If you notice the family looking different between the first movie and the second, that is why. Most of the recasting happened early, and the lineup has been stable since 2014.
Do You Have to Watch Them in Order?
No. Every Garage Sale Mystery closes its own case, and you can drop in anywhere without being lost.
That said, we would watch them in release order if you have the time. The mysteries stand alone, but the Shannon family does not. The kids grow up, the marriage evolves, and Jennifer’s relationship with Detective Lynwood shifts over the years. Watching in order gives you all of that.
If you want a shortcut before the September premiere, watch the pilot, then jump to the 2017 and 2018 runs. That is where the series hit its stride.

1. Garage Sale Mystery (September 14, 2013)
The pilot. A string of burglaries hits Jennifer’s town, and she works out a theory connecting them to local garage sales. Then she arrives for lunch at her friend Kate’s house and finds her dead. Police call it an accident. Jennifer does not.
2. Garage Sale Mystery: All That Glitters (October 26, 2014)
Jennifer buys a storage unit at auction. The auctioneer turns up dead hours later. When someone breaks into the shop, she and Dani start going through the boxes to figure out what the killer was after.
3. Garage Sale Mystery: The Deadly Room (April 28, 2015)
A real estate agent spends the night in a supposedly cursed mansion to prove it is nothing but a story. She is found dead in the morning. She was also Jennifer’s friend, so Jennifer starts digging into the history of the house.
4. Garage Sale Mystery: The Wedding Dress (August 9, 2015)
A vintage wedding dress comes into the shop with a story attached. There was a groom, and he went missing. Jennifer cannot leave it alone.
5. Garage Sale Mystery: Guilty Until Proven Innocent (January 3, 2016)
Jennifer’s old college friend Sandra becomes the prime suspect when her former fiancĂ© is murdered. Jennifer sets out to clear her, and a widow who comes in to sell her late husband’s antiques turns out to matter more than anyone expects.
6. Garage Sale Mystery: The Novel Murders (June 4, 2016)
One of the best premises in the series. Jennifer realizes the clues at a murder scene match an Agatha Christie novel. Then a second murder follows a Sherlock Holmes story, and a third points to Mary Roberts Rinehart. Someone is killing by the book.
7. Garage Sale Mystery: The Art of Murder (January 8, 2017)
Jennifer is organizing a charity garage sale when she finds a body in the attic of a nearby house, surrounded by artwork. The art is the clue.
8. Garage Sale Mystery: The Beach Murder (August 2017)
A strong swimmer washes up drowned. His widow does not buy it and asks Jennifer to look into it.
9. Garage Sale Mystery: Murder by Text (August 2017)
A bass player about to tour with a country star is found dead at home, ruled a suicide. Jennifer is not convinced. Meanwhile Jason is caught between a demolition project and his daughter, who is leading the effort to save the building.
10. Garage Sale Mystery: Murder Most Medieval (August 2017)
Jennifer buys an antique suit of armor for the shop. There is a history professor’s body inside it. His assistant is killed shortly after. This one is a fan favorite and you will understand why about ten minutes in.
11. Garage Sale Mystery: A Case of Murder (August 2017)
The darkest entry in the series. Jennifer picks up an old reel to reel recorder at a garage sale, plays the tapes that came with it, and hears a man begging for his life moments before he is killed.
12. Garage Sale Mystery: The Pandora’s Box Murders (August 5, 2018)
A woman hires Jennifer to open a puzzle box belonging to the wealthy Andronicus family. The box goes missing. Then family members start dying, and the suspect list is enormous.
13. Garage Sale Mystery: The Mask Murder (August 12, 2018)
Jennifer buys a storage locker and finds a body inside, along with a mask molded to the dead woman’s own face.
14. Garage Sale Mystery: Picture a Murder (August 19, 2018)
A photography collector dies in what looks like an accident. Jennifer buys his antique camera at auction, develops the film still inside, and finds something in one of the frames that changes everything.
15. Garage Sale Mystery: Murder in D Minor (August 26, 2018)
Jennifer wins a vintage Welte-Mignon player piano at an estate auction. The late owner was known as a philanthropist. The piano suggests he was something else entirely.
16. Garage Sale Mysteries: Searched & Seized (May 8, 2020)
The last one for six years. Jennifer helps fellow antiques dealer Miles Wexford bid on items at a police auction. When Miles turns up dead, she follows the trail to a counterfeiting operation with mob connections.
17. Garage Sale Mysteries: Murder Takes the Stage (September 19, 2026)
The return. One of the members of Jennifer’s true crime book club is murdered during the group’s reenactment of the Lizzie Borden case.
Lori Loughlin, Sarah Strange, Steve Bacic, Kevin O’Grady, Connor Stanhope, and Eva Bourne are all confirmed. That is the full core cast, which is a very good sign for anyone hoping this is a real revival and not a one off.
It premieres Saturday, September 19 at 8/7c on Hallmark Channel and streams on Hallmark+ the next day.
Why Did Garage Sale Mystery End?
Hallmark ended its relationship with Lori Loughlin in March 2019, following her indictment in the college admissions case. She later pleaded guilty and served a two month sentence in 2020.
Searched & Seized had already finished filming, and it eventually aired in May 2020. A 17th film called Three Little Murders was about a week from wrapping when production stopped. It has never been released.
Loughlin returned to acting in the years that followed, including work with Great American Family. Murder Takes the Stage marks her first Hallmark movie since the split. There are rumors that she’s currently filming a Hallmark Christmas movie as well!
