Alvina August and Nathan Witte on Falling Into Place
We got a few minutes with Alvina August and Nathan Witte ahead of Falling Into Place, and we made the most of it: bucket lists, a scarecrow that would not cooperate, and the story behind the one scene they had a hand in changing.
Falling Into Place premieres Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 8/7c on Hallmark Channel as part of Fall Into Love, and streams the next day on Hallmark+. Alvina plays Kaia, who comes home for her town’s fall festival and her high school reunion and spends the week with childhood best friend James (Nathan) finishing an unfinished fall bucket list.

How you build best friend chemistry
Friends-to-more is a tricky lane — you have to believe the history before you believe the romance. Nathan’s method is refreshingly low-tech: keep asking your co-star questions “until they’re annoyed at me.” And then the real tell. “When I really love you, I start to poke fun a little bit,” he said. “So when we can poke fun and have a little fun, I feel like we can build a repertoire.”
The scene they helped shape
Ask them which scene rewards a closer look and you land on the dinner and fire pit sequence. This is the one where you can feel these two stop being just friends. They told us they had real input on how it played, because the original version felt a little stiff.
Their fix was to get the characters out of their heads and into their bodies. “A lot of Black weddings have this specific dance that we do, and everybody knows it. They all join in,” Alvina explained. “So we were like, yeah, let’s just do that.” They worked it into the scene, and it stuck.
“As an actor, I’m always trying to find moments where I can bring in action and activity,” Alvina went on. “We’re not sitting and talking all the time. It’s kind of awkward.” The result, in their words, is the moment these characters start living from their hearts instead of their heads. Nathan felt like the cooking scene that comes before it is doing a lot work too, with both of them clocking that this friendship might be something else.
(Having seen this moment, we agree it’s one to watch for!)
Bucket lists, on screen and off
Since the whole movie hangs on a bucket list, we asked about theirs. Nathan wants Japan, and would like to get there in business class, thank you. “It’s a long flight. I wanna be able to sleep.” Alvina wants to see Celine Dion live, ideally in Vegas, and she has good reason to hurry. She never got to see Michael Jackson. She never got to see Whitney Houston. “I just have one more chance to see someone that I admire.”
Celine, if you’re reading: Alvina is available for the Paris residency.
On set, the bucket list item that fought back was the scarecrow. Building one turned out to be a whole production — keeping the head on, stuffing it with hay, lifting it just so. The winner was the apple cider donut scene, for the obvious reason that you get to eat the donuts afterward. (Nathan had never had an apple cider donut before this movie. We have questions.)
What the movie is actually about
We asked them to sell it without saying cozy or heartwarming, and the answer went somewhere better. It’s about courage and being honest about where you thought you’d be versus where you are, stepping back, getting outside, putting the phone down, and figuring out what you actually want. “Recognizing that there’s things that you want and that you’re willing to be brave enough to get them.”
