This week, we’re continuing our Hallmark Hall of Fame Christmas retrospective with A Season for Miracles. Originally premiering on CBS in 1999, the film stars Carla Gugino, David Conrad, Patty Duke, Laura Dern, Kathy Baker, and a scene-stealing young Mae Whitman. Join us as we discuss the heartfelt story, the magical touches, the unbelievable courtroom drama, and why this Hallmark Hall of Fame holiday classic ended up being one of our favorites of the Christmas in July lineup.
A Season for Miracles aired on December 12, 1999, as a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation on the CBS network. It is currently available to stream on Hallmark+.

The Cast of Hallmark’s A Season for Miracles
- Michael Pressman directed the film. A two-time Emmy winner, he’s directed episodes of acclaimed series including Picket Fences, Chicago Hope, Blue Bloods, and Law & Order: SVU.
- Maria Nation wrote the screenplay. She is known for other Hallmark projects like One Summer and The Beach House.
- Carla Gugino stars as Emilie. Her credits include Spy Kids, Gerald’s Game, and Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher.
- David Conrad stars as Nathan. He spent five seasons playing Jim Clancy on Ghost Whisperer, a role many viewers will remember.
- Mae Whitman stars as Alanna. After a career spanning more than three decades, Mae most recently starred in Hallmark’s The Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas.
- Kathy Baker appears as social worker Ruth Doyle. Kathy is a three-time Emmy winner for her role as Jill Brock on Picket Fences.
- Laura Dern appears as Berry. The Oscar-winning actress has starred in everything from Jurassic Park to Big Little Lies and Marriage Story.
- Patty Duke plays the angel. The Oscar-winning actress is best remembered for The Miracle Worker and The Patty Duke Show. Patty passed in 2016 at the age of 69.
- Lynn Redgrave appears as the judge. Best known for her Oscar-nominated performance in Georgy Girl, she was also a celebrated stage and screen actress. Lynn passed in 2010 at the age of 67.
- Tony Award winner Mary Louise Wilson appears Corinna. She won a Tony for originating the role of Little Edie in Broadway’s Grey Gardens.
- Mary Fogarty appears as Agatha. She enjoyed a long career as a character actress, appearing in films like The War of the Roses and Swing Kids.
- The film was a ratings hit, drawing 22.2 million viewers and finishing as the week’s second most-watched program, behind only Frasier.
