What’s New for Hallmark Christmas
Regular listeners of our podcast know that we have high expectations from the network in terms of representation. We are pleased to see some new additions to the line up this year.
- Hallmark Movies & Mysteries will debut the first Christmas movie from under the new Mahogany banner on Saturday, December 3. It is called “The Holiday Stocking” and stars Nadine Ellis, Tamala Jones, BJ Britt, Karon Riley and Mykelti Williamson.
- “The Holiday Sitter” features the network’s first LGBTQ couple as leads. This movie will premiere on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, December 11 and stars the adorable Jonathan Bennett and George Krissa.
- “Holiday Heritage” is the network’s first ever movie celebrating Kwanzaa. Premiering on Friday, December 16 on the Hallmark Channel, this movie stars the incomparable Holly Robinson Peete, Lyndie Greenwood, and Brooks Darnell.
- The Chinese American culture will be celebrated this season with two original movies.
- “A Big Fat Family Christmas” airs Friday, December 2 on the Hallmark Channel. Starring Shannon Chan-Kent, Shannon Kook, Tia Carrere, and Jack Wagner.
- “Christmas at Golden Dragon” will air Sunday, November 13 on the Hallmark Channel. It stars Kara Wang, Osric Chau, Sara Canning, Antonio Cupo, and Barbara Niven.
- “Hanukkah on Rye” from Julie Sherman Wolfe will premiere on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, December 18 and stars Jeremy Jordan, Yael Grobglas, and singer Lisa Loeb.
Goodbye Candace Cameron Bure
It’s old news that Candace Cameron Bure won’t return to Hallmark this season since signing an exclusive deal with a competing network. We think she won’t be missed and this is why:
- Hallmark Queen Lacey Chabert will star in “Haul Out the Holly” with Wes Brown on Saturday, November 26 on the Hallmark Channel. Looks like Lacey snagged the primetime spot Thanksgiving weekend and it’s well deserved!
- Jodie Sweetin (yes, Stephanie Tanner from “Full House”) will return to Hallmark this holiday with “A Cozy Christmas Inn” on Friday, October 28 on the Hallmark Channel.
- Ashley Williams stars in “Five More Minutes: Moments Like These” on HM&M on Saturday, December 17. This is the second Hallmark movie inspired by the country song “Five More Minutes.”
- Alison Sweeney and Luke Macfarlane will star in “A Magical Christmas Village” on the Hallmark Channel on Friday, November 4. This will likely be Luke Macfarlane’s last Hallmark movie.
- “Inventing the Christmas Prince” stars Tamera Mowry-Housely and will air on the Hallmark Channel on Friday, November 18.
- Nikki DeLoach will star in “The Gift of Peace” which reads as a faith-driven movie. This will air on HM&M on Saturday, December 10 and co-stars Brennan Elliott.
- “A Fabled Holiday” will star Brooke D’Orsay and Ryan Paevey on Saturday, December 3 airing on the Hallmark Channel.
Hunks of Hallmark Christmas
Who can blame us for objectifying these Hallmark hunks? We’re buzzing over the trio of dudes in “Three Wise Men and a Baby” starring Tyler Hynes, Andrew Walker, and Paul Campbell. It will premiere on Saturday, November 19 and we will definitely be recapping this one for the podcast.
Here are some other ones to look forward to:
- Will Kemp danced into our hearts a few years ago with “The Christmas Waltz”. He returns in “Jolly Good Christmas” on Saturday, October 29.
- Brant Daugherty stars with Clare Bowen in “#Xmas” during Thanksgiving weekend on Friday, November 25.
- Expect two movies from Andrew Walker. Not only will he be in “Three Wise Men and a Baby,” he will star in “A Maple Valley Christmas” on HM&M on Saturday, November 5.
- Ditto for Tyler Freaking Hynes. Starring in “Time For Him to Come Home for Christmas” which is the fifth installment of the franchise based on Blake Shelton’s song “Time for Me to Come Home.” This movie will premiere on HM&M on Saturday, November 26 (immediately following Lacey Chabert’s “Haul Out the Holly” on the Hallmark Channel). Big Thanksgiving weekend for Hallmark.
More Hallmark Highlights
From writer Julie Sherman-Wolfe, “A Holiday Spectacular” will premiere on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday, November 27. This promises to be a real treat starring Ginna Claire Mason from “Wicked” and Derek Klena from “Jagged Little Pill.” Ann Margaret and Eve Plumb also star, as well as the Radio City Rockettes.
At first look we’re excited for Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas schedule. Are there some gaps? Sure. We’re going to dig in deeper on our special preview episode coming in the next week.
